1. Answer the following questions:
(a) Why did the carpenter give the piece of wood to Gepetto?
Ans: Geppetto wanted to make a wooden puppet that could run, jump, and make its way around the world. So the carpenter readily gave the piece of wood to Geppetto.
(b) What did the Puppet Pinocchio want?
Ans: Pinocchio wanted to be a real boy, a real son to his father, and not just a wooden puppet.
(c) Why could Pinocchio not become a real boy?
Ans: Pinocchio could not become a real boy because he was only a little wooden puppet and did silly things that a real boy would not have done.
(d) Why did Pinocchio’s nose become long?
Ans: The moment Pinocchio told a lie, his nose grew longer. With every lie, it grew longer and longer.
(e) How did Pinocchio become a real boy at the end?
Ans: Pinocchio started to work hard to help Gepetto. He even sent all his money to the fairy when he knew that she was ill. He put in all his efforts, and thus, by doing good deeds, he became a real boy.
2. Give one example each of the following:
(a) Pinocchio’s naughtiness
Ans: As soon as Gepetto taught Pinocchio to walk, he ran out of the hut so fast that Geppeto could not catch him. A policeman caught him and brought him back to Geppetto. From this, we can understand Pinocchio’s naughtiness.
(b) Pinocchio’s silly ideas about school
Ans: Pinoccho thought he would go to school, learn reading in a day, write the next day, and then arithmetic the day after that.
(c) Geppetto’s love for Pinocchio
Ans: Gepetto loved Pinocchio so much that when he knew that Pinocchio wanted to go to school, he sold his only coat to get the money for Pinocchio’s books.
(d) The puppet master’s kindness
Ans: The puppet master was not really wicked. He did not throw them into the fire but let both puppets go. He also gave Pinocchio five gold coins for his old father, Geppetto, when he heard his story.

4. Write/tell any one of Pinocchio’s adventures in short, in your own words.
Ans: Once upon a time, there was a poor man named Geppetto. He wanted to make puppets and become a puppeteer. He got a special piece of wood and carved a puppet named Pinocchio. But Pinocchio was naughty and ran away. Geppetto got in trouble when he tried to stop Pinocchio. Pinocchio met bad friends like a fox and a cat who wanted his gold coins. He did some silly things and even turned into a donkey. But a kind fairy helped him. Pinocchio learned to be good and took care of his father Geppetto. The fairy made him a real boy in the end.
5. Write/tell about any one silly thing that you have done.
Ans: Once, I found colourful markers and drew on walls, furniture, and even my face. My mom scolded me and explained to me that markers are for paper.
6. Write/tell about any occasion when you wanted to help others.
Ans: Once, when I was in a car, I saw a blind old lady who was crossing the road, but she could not. At that time, I went and helped that old lady cross the road. I always like to help old people.
