Exercise

1. Make a pattern by placing any geometric shapes one in front of the other.

Ans: Students should do this on their own.

2. Make a pattern using different freehand shapes.

Ans: Students should do this on their own.

3. Complete the pattern given below.

4. Identify the geometric shapes in the pattern above and using them, create your own design.

Ans: Students should do this on their own.

Exercise

1. Look at the 5 times table
5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75,… Find the pattern in the digits in the units places of this table. Is there a pattern in the tens digits in this table?

Ans: The units place goes 9, 8, 7, 6,… in descending order. The tens place goes 1, 2, 3, 4… in ascending order.

2. Write the 10 times table.
Look at the digits in the units place of this table. What is the pattern there?

Ans: The units place goes 5, 0, 5, 0, 5, 0,… and the tens place goes 0, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3.

3. Write the 2 times table till 2 × 15 = 30.
Look at the digits in the units place from 2 × 1 = 2 up to 2 × 15 = 30. Find the pattern.

Ans: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 28, 30. The units place goes 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, 2, 4, 8, 0, and it repeats.

4. Complete the multiplications given below. Find a pattern in the products

6 × 10 = 60
6 × 100 = 600
6 × 1000 =
6 × 10000 =

7 × 10 = 70
7 × 100 = 700
7 × 1000 =
7 × 10000 =

Ans:

6 × 100 = 6000

6 × 10000 = 60000

7 × 1000 = 7000

7 × 10000 = 70000

In each case just one zero keeps getting attached to the final result.

5. Multiply 37 by 3, 6, 9…, 27 in that order. Observe the patterns in the products.

Ans:

37 × 3 = 111
37 × 6 = 222
37 × 9 = 333
37 × 12 = 444
37 × 15 = 555
37 × 18 = 666
37 × 21 = 777
37 × 24 = 888
37 × 27 = 999

In each case, we have a single number repeated three times in order from 1 to 9.
