Maharashtra Board Textbook Solutions for Standard Five

Chapter 16 – Write your own Story

Form groups of five.
Look at the chart given on pages 40-41.
Each person in the group is given only one column to choose from.
From column A, one person chooses any five characters.

From column B, another person can choose any five characteristics or qualities for these characters.
From columns C, D and E, the three remaining children choose the story type, the period and one setting (place) respectively.

The condition is that every person chooses separately, without telling or consulting the others.

After everyone has chosen, you put all the elements together and build a story/play with it.
It must have a beginning, some events and an end.
You may choose other supporting characters and move from one setting or time period to another, if necessary, but you must use what you choose first.

The Terrible Impact of Deception

Once upon a time, in a hilly village, lived a kind Merchant, an honest Farmer, a helpful Hawker, a wicked Thief, and a shrewd Neighbour. The Merchant cheerfully traded commodities, while the Farmer took care of his land and the Hawker generously provided his wares.

The Thief’s sharp mind, on the other hand, tried to take advantage of their benefits. He devised a cunning plan to frame the farmer for taking the Merchant’s goods. Envious of their reputation, the clever Neighbour joined hands with the Thief to spread stories and cause conflict.

The villagers quickly turned against the Farmer, believing his lies. Mistrust and enmity had divided the once-close community. The Farmer’s business failed, and his family suffered as a result.

As tensions rose one fateful day, the truth came out. The Neighbour’s wickedness was exposed, and the Thief’s tricks were made clear. Feelings of regret broke the village apart, but it was too late to fix what had happened.

The tragic tale of the dishonest Neighbour and the evil Thief serves as an awakening warning that betrayal and enmity may break even the tightest ties. The town discovered in their wake that kindness, unity, and trust are rare gems that must be treasured and maintained above all else.

Moral: The tale teaches that the seeds of deception yield tragic discord.
