Chapter 20 – Only One Mother
Things to do
1. Make a list of the rhyming words in the poem. Add one more rhyming word of your own to each pair.
Ans:
1. sky – by – fly
2. together – weather – feather
3. dawn – lawn – fawn
4. clover – over – bower
2. Write some more expressions like ‘hundreds of’. Expand each expression.
Example, ‘Hundreds of children in the school.’
Ans:
Hundreds of leaves on the tree.
Hundreds of fishes in the sea.
Hundreds of words in the book.
Hundreds of vehicles on the road.
3. Answer the following questions.
(1) What examples of plentiful things does the poet give?
Ans: The poet gives the examples of stars, shells, birds, lambs, dewdrops, bees and butterflies of being in plenty.
(2) Why does the poet say that the dewdrops greet the dawn ?
Ans: At dawn, the moisture in the air settles on the leaves or plants in the form of water droplets known as “dewdrops.” As this happens before the sun rises, it seems as if the dewdrops are greeting the dawn.
(3) Do you agree with the poet’s thoughts? Why ?
Ans: Yes, I agree with the poet’s thoughts because we find plenty of things of various kinds but there for every one there is only one mother in the entire world.
4. Write a letter to any one of the following to tell them how much you appreciate them.
Your mother
Your father
Any one of your relatives
Your teacher
Ans:
Dear Mother,
I love you very much. I appreciate everything you do for me, from cooking my favourite dishes to organising my belongings. What would I do if you weren’t here, mother? I appreciate you understanding me, lovingly teaching and explaining things to me, encouraging me to do my best, and correcting me when I am wrong. Despite your busy schedule, you pay attention to everything I say. Last but not least, I want to thank you for always being there for me in good and bad times. This only demonstrates how much you adore and care for me.
I adore you to pieces. You are the best mother in the entire world. Thank you for being such a wonderful mother.
Your ever loving son,
XYZ.
