Dear Sneha,

I hope you are doing well and enjoying your school days. You may remember that during the Diwali holidays, I had borrowed the book ‘The Blue Umbrella’ from you and had promised to return it soon.

I am very sorry to tell you that I have lost the book. While travelling home a few days ago, I accidentally left it behind in a bus. I tried my best to find it by checking with the bus depot, but I was unsuccessful. I have also looked for the same book in a few bookstores, but I have not been able to get a copy yet.

I feel very bad about my carelessness and sincerely regret losing something that belonged to you. Please accept my apology. I promise that I will either replace the book with a new copy or pay you its cost, whichever you prefer.

I hope you will forgive me for this mistake. Please convey my regards to your parents.

Your loving friend,

Suhail
