Dear Karan,

Thank you so much for inviting me to your sister Priya’s wedding on March 25th at 7:00 PM. I was really happy to receive the invitation and I would have loved to be there to celebrate this special occasion with your family.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the ceremony. My grandmother in Kolkata is seriously ill and my parents have decided that our entire family needs to go there on March 23rd. We’ll be staying with her for at least two weeks. I’m really sorry to miss such an important event in your family.

I feel terrible about not being there, but I hope you understand the situation. Please convey my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Priya and her husband. I’m sending a gift for her separately, which should reach you in a couple of days.

I hope the wedding goes beautifully and that your family has a wonderful celebration. Please share some photos with me! I’ll make sure to visit after I return from Kolkata so I can congratulate Priya in person.

Once again, thank you for thinking of me and inviting me. Sorry I can’t be there.
