The lion belongs to the cat family. It is mostly found in forests. It is brownish-yellow in colour. The lion is a strong and powerful animal, scared of nothing. Male lions have long manes. The young one of a lion is called a cub. A group of lions is called a ‘pride’. The lion walks gracefully and majestically. It is rightly known as the King of the Jungle.

The lion is carnivorous. It eats other animals. Lions are mainly found in Central Africa and India. In India, we find them mainly in the Gir forests in Gujarat. The Gir forest has been turned into a wildlife sanctuary by the government to protect and preserve the lion population.
