People who live in cities rarely think about the farmer. Many of them do not even know how important he is. We must remember that it is from the farmer that we get our daily food.

The farmer wears simple clothes. He wears a shirt, a dhoti or trousers, and a cap or a turban. On his feet, he wears heavy shoes or sandals. He lives in a simple hut in a village. His food, too, is very simple!

The farmer leads a busy life. He works in the field all day! He ploughs the soil before the rains. He sows seeds after the first rain. He looks after the growing crop and reaps it when it is ripe. There are certain parts of the year when he has no work to do.

Many farmers in India are very poor. Yet they are healthy. Though the farmer has little money, he is happy. We must always respect the important work that the farmer does for the people of his nation.
