The Pleasures of Walking

Walking is one of the simplest and best exercises. It is a natural remedy for many health problems. In almost every city, you can see young people, middle-aged and elderly taking morning or evening walks. They not only keep themselves fit but also enjoy the freshness of it.

Since we are blessed with two strong feet, walking should be a part of our daily routine. Of course, in today’s busy life we need cars, buses and trains to reach our destinations on time. But whenever we have some leisure and the distance is not very long, nothing can match the joy of walking.

One of the greatest pleasures of walking is that it allows us to do many other things at the same time. If you have a good walking companion, the walk turns into a time of cheerful talk and bonding. If you walk alone, it gives you the chance to think deeply, reflect on your day, or even dream about the future. A walk helps in clearing the mind, calming anger and relaxing emotions.

I myself enjoy an evening stroll sometimes with friends, sometimes alone. I also walk to school, but this feels less enjoyable because of the heavy load of books. A real walk, to be enjoyable, should be free and light, with the hands swinging naturally. The best times are early morning or late evening, when the air is cool and peaceful.

People living in villages experience the joy of walking every day, as walking is part of their routine. But for city dwellers who spend hours at desks or in front of screens, walking is even more important. Regular walks bring balance to body and mind, keeping us both active and refreshed.

There is an old saying: “After lunch rest a while, after supper walk a mile.” A simple habit of walking daily keeps the body healthy, the mind fresh and life more cheerful.
