The Person I Admire the Most

I have learnt about our national heroes not only from my school history books but also from books and articles written about their lives. I respect and admire all of them, but Mahatma Gandhi is my favourite. He is remembered with great respect not only in India but across the world.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. He received a good education and later went to England to study law. After that, he spent some time in South Africa, where he fought against injustice and discrimination. These experiences shaped his thoughts and inspired him to work for the rights of people. On returning to India, he joined the freedom movement and soon became one of the most important leaders of the nation.

He strongly opposed British rule through peaceful methods and inspired millions of Indians to fight for freedom. His principles of truth and non-violence earned him the trust and respect of people from all walks of life. Under his leadership, the struggle for independence became stronger and more united.

After years of sacrifice and hard work, India finally achieved Independence in 1947. Gandhi devoted his life to serving the nation and promoting peace, unity and social harmony. Gandhiji loved people and believed in simple living. His teachings continue to guide people even today.

With his death on January 30, 1948, India lost one of its greatest leaders.
