Republic Day

India gained freedom from British rule on 15th August 1947 and became an independent nation. However, the Constitution of India came into force on 26th January 1950. Since then, this day has been celebrated as Republic Day across the country every year.

The grandest Republic Day celebrations are held in New Delhi, the capital of India. Thousands of people gather to watch the President unfurl the National Flag. This is followed by a magnificent parade by the armed forces, which is a major attraction of the event.

After the parade, colourful tableaux and cultural groups from different states take part in a procession. They showcase the rich culture, traditions and progress of our country in various fields. Republic Day is also celebrated with great joy and pride in cities, towns and villages throughout India.

This year, our school celebrated Republic Day with great enthusiasm. The classrooms were beautifully decorated and several cultural programmes were organised. In the morning, we attended the flag-hoisting ceremony. The Principal unfurled the National Flag and spoke to us about our duties as responsible citizens.

On this special day, we promised to protect the unity and freedom of our country. We also took an oath to work for the peace, progress and prosperity of our beloved nation.
