Patriotism is love and pride for one’s own country. It is one of the noblest feelings of humanity and also the most natural. Our nation is, in a way, our second mother. We were born and brought up here, cared for and shaped by her. She gives us opportunities, education, food and shelter. Whatever we achieve in life, a large part of it comes from our country. Therefore, it is natural for us to love and respect our motherland. A person without patriotic spirit is truly ungrateful and incomplete.
At times, we may not agree with the decisions of the government or the leaders in power. But this should never affect our love for the nation. Patriotism is the spirit that binds people together, no matter which state they come from or what their political views are.
Unfortunately, some people misuse patriotism for selfish purposes. In today’s world too, we see groups or leaders trying to divide society in the name of nationalism or religion. We must be careful and hold firmly to truth, justice and unity. What truly matters is the country itself, not those who try to misuse people’s emotions for their own gain.
Our motherland is India. She is not just a piece of land but a symbol of our dreams, values and way of life. Loving India means respecting her diversity, protecting her freedom, preserving her culture and contributing to her progress. Patriotism today also means being responsible citizens; following laws, caring for the environment, respecting all communities and working for development. No sacrifice is too great in the service of our nation. As the old Sanskrit proverb reminds us: “Mother and motherland are greater than heaven itself.”
