Independence Day
15th August 1947 is a memorable day in the history of India. On this day, our country gained freedom from British rule after a long struggle. Since then, Independence Day has been celebrated across the nation every year on 15th August.
Independence Day is a day of pride and joy for every Indian. It reminds us of the brave freedom fighters who made great sacrifices to help India become an independent nation.
The main Independence Day celebration takes place at the Red Fort in New Delhi, the capital of India. The Prime Minister hoists the National Flag while the National Anthem is played. This is followed by a 21-gun salute, after which the Prime Minister addresses the nation. On this special day, the tricolour flies proudly on government buildings and many important private institutions.
In our school, Independence Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm. The classrooms are decorated beautifully and exhibitions are organised to showcase important moments from India’s freedom movement. The flag-hoisting ceremony on the school ground is followed by a march past by the students. Patriotic songs are sung in different languages and some students deliver speeches or recite poems.
Independence Day holds great importance for all Indians. We will always celebrate this national festival with happiness, respect and pride.
