If Trees could Speak!

Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose proved through his experiments that trees have life just like animals and humans. They can feel care and respond to our behaviour. This makes me wonder, what if trees could actually speak? What stories would they tell us?

If a tree could speak, it would probably surprise us with its words. It would cry in pain if someone broke its branch or plucked a flower. Its leaves would whisper sadly if smoke from factories choked them. It would plead with us not to cut it down, because just like us, it too feels the joy of living.

If trees had voices, they would talk about seasons and nature. Leaves would nervously discuss the coming of winter and their fall. Old trunks would proudly share tales of their long life. Fruits would talk about their growth, while branches would share their experiences with birds, squirrels and insects who visit them.

I believe trees would also speak of their happiness; the thrill of cool winds in summer, the delight of raindrops and the beauty of living as a part of nature. They would never boast about their usefulness, for trees are too humble to talk about how much they give to us.

But trees would surely complain about their biggest enemy, ‘Man’. They would question why humans destroy forests, cut them down for buildings and forget that trees are living beings too. They would beg us to treat them with respect and care.

Even though trees cannot speak, poets, scientists and environmentalists have reminded us of their importance. It is our duty to listen to nature, protect trees and save them for future generations.
