Anyone who watches TV or online streaming regularly will agree that advertisements can sometimes be very annoying. Every few minutes, there is a commercial break and we are asked to pay attention to products promoted by sponsors. These breaks are even more frustrating when they interrupt an exciting movie, a trending web series, or an important cricket match! And to make it worse, some ads are just completely crazy.

The most common examples are when sports stars, film actors, or social media influencers appear in ads for toothpaste, soft drinks, beauty products, or gadgets. Advertisers want us to believe that the glowing skin of the actor is because of a face cream, or the athlete’s energy comes from a soft drink or energy bar. And of course, in the end, the advertisers get what they want; the product stays in our mind.

But the craziest part is often the storylines of these ads. For example, one ad shows a father ignoring his son’s poor marks because he is busy driving his favorite luxury car when he hears the news. Another ad shows a girl missing a job opportunity because of dull hair, then using a shampoo and suddenly landing the position! There’s also an ad where two clumsy neighbours create endless problems for each other, all to sell a biscuit that claims to be “sweet and salty at the same time.” The connection between the story and the product is often baffling!

The most ridiculous ad I’ve seen recently shows a weak office worker turning into a superhero, defeating villains and winning the girl all because of a particular brand of underwear! Can anything be more unbelievable than this? The directors of such ads rely on viewers suspending all logic and rushing to buy the products!

But after all, these crazy ads do have one advantage that they entertain us. If all ads were perfectly realistic and truthful, we might find them dull and boring. At least these ads take us into a funny, exaggerated world where anything is possible and that is a unique experience for the viewers.
