Autobiography of a River

I am a sacred river that flows through the fertile plains of northern India. I have been in existence for thousands of years and have played an important role in the lives of millions of people. I begin my journey high in the mountains, where clear streams and melting snow give me life. From there, I travel across several states before finally reaching a vast delta and merging with the sea.

Many rivers join me during my long journey. Their waters make me stronger and help me flow across great distances. As I move forward, I pass through several important towns and cities. Over the years, dams and barrages have been built on me to supply drinking water, support farming and meet the needs of growing populations.

Thousands of people visit my banks throughout the year. They collect my water for religious ceremonies and special occasions. Many people also come to offer prayers and remember their loved ones. Devotees take holy dips in my waters, believing that they bring purity and peace. Several important festivals are celebrated along my banks with great devotion and enthusiasm.

Apart from supporting human life, I provide opportunities for farming, fishing, transportation and tourism. I am proud to be a source of livelihood and comfort for countless people. My journey has continued for centuries and I hope to keep flowing for many generations to come.
