An Hour at the School Library
Yesterday, we had our first library period of the year. As students of Std. 8, we were allowed to spend one hour in the library every month. I was very excited because we could read books there and also borrow storybooks to take home.
Our class walked to the library in a neat line. Tall bookshelves stood along the walls and there were cupboards and racks filled with books. The books were arranged alphabetically, making them easy to find. Magazines and newspapers were neatly displayed on separate racks.
The librarian handed each student a library card on which we wrote our names and class. She collected the cards and kept them with her. Then we began looking for books that interested us. Our class teacher accompanied us and helped us choose suitable books. She also recommended some popular authors and book series.
After a little searching, I found an interesting mystery book by Rohan Mehta called The Hidden Clue. I sat at the long table in the middle of the library and started reading. The story quickly drew me in and I became completely absorbed in it. Occasionally, a whisper or a sudden burst of laughter disturbed the silence. Two students nearby were giggling while looking through a book. The teacher gave them a stern glance and they immediately became quiet.
I was surprised when the librarian announced, “Only ten minutes remaining.” We then wrote down the names of the books we wished to borrow on our library cards. Our teacher helped us complete the process. Soon it was time to return to class quietly. I could not wait to get home and continue reading my book.
I enjoyed spending time in the school library and am already looking forward to my next visit.
