A Stitch in Time Saves Nine

Most of us learn from an early age that it is important to deal with problems as soon as they arise. If we keep postponing action, the situation often becomes worse and takes much more time and effort to solve. A small tear in a piece of clothing can be repaired easily if noticed in time. However, if it is ignored, the tear may grow larger and become difficult to mend. In the end, the garment may become useless and have to be discarded or used for some other purpose.

The same lesson applies to many situations in our daily lives. Children may sometimes develop bad habits such as lying, stealing, smoking or gambling. If these habits are corrected in the beginning, they can be stopped easily. But when they are allowed to continue, they often become difficult to break. We have all heard stories of criminals who began with small wrong actions in childhood. If they had been guided firmly at the right time, their lives might have taken a better path.

Minor misunderstandings between people should also be settled as early as possible. If they are ignored, even strong friendships and long-lasting relationships may suffer. In the same way, small health problems should not be neglected. A simple illness that could have been treated easily in its early stage may later develop into a serious condition requiring extensive medical care.

Therefore, it is wise to face a problem when it is small and manageable. Leaving it unattended can make it more complicated and difficult to control. By acting at the right time, we can prevent bigger troubles and avoid unnecessary loss in the future.
