General Contest Terms & Conditions
For Competitions organised by Shaykh Art and/or in collaboration with Shaykh Academy
Last Updated: 20 August 2026
These General Contest Terms & Conditions (“General Terms”) apply to competitions, challenges and creative contests organised by Shaykh Art, whether independently or in collaboration with Shaykh Academy or another expressly identified organisation (“Organiser”).
Each individual competition will also have its own competition page containing the specific rules, dates, eligibility requirements, submission instructions, judging criteria and prizes applicable to that competition (“Competition-Specific Rules”).
By submitting an entry, the participant and where the participant is a minor, their parent or legal guardian confirm that they have read and agreed to these General Terms and the applicable Competition-Specific Rules.
1. About Our Competitions (Contests)
Shaykh Art organises creative and educational competitions intended to encourage creativity, learning, participation and original work.
Each competition is different. Therefore, the Competition-Specific Rules published for a particular competition will always apply together with these General Terms.
If there is a genuine conflict between these General Terms and a clearly stated Competition-Specific Rule, the Competition-Specific Rule will apply only to that particular competition and only to the extent of the conflict.
2. Who Can Participate
Eligibility will be stated on the individual competition page.
Unless a particular competition states otherwise:
- Participation may be open to participants residing in India.
- Specific age, class, category or location restrictions may apply.
- Participants who are under 18 years of age must have the consent and involvement of a parent or legal guardian as required by the applicable competition.
- The Organiser may require reasonable information to verify eligibility.
The Organiser reserves the right to refuse an entry where the participant does not satisfy the applicable eligibility requirements.
3. Parent/Guardian Requirement for Minors
Where a participant is a minor:
- The parent or legal guardian must review the applicable competition information and provide the required consent.
- The parent or legal guardian confirms that they are authorised to provide consent on behalf of the minor.
- The parent or legal guardian agrees to these General Terms and the Competition-Specific Rules on behalf of the minor to the extent applicable.
- The Organiser may communicate with the parent or legal guardian regarding eligibility, verification, prizes, consent, content usage or other competition matters.
- Where appropriate, prizes may be paid to the parent or legal guardian rather than directly to the minor.
The Organiser may request reasonable verification of the parent/guardian relationship where necessary.
4. Competition-Specific Rules
Every competition may have its own requirements relating to:
- Eligibility
- Competition dates
- Theme or topic
- Number of entries
- Entry method
- Materials or format
- Submission deadline
- Judging criteria
- Prizes
- Winner announcement
- Special eligibility conditions
Participants must read the relevant Competition-Specific Rules before entering.
Failure to follow a competition-specific requirement may result in the entry being rejected or disqualified.
5. Participation Is Not Automatically Acceptance
Submitting a form, uploading an entry or otherwise attempting to participate does not automatically mean that the entry has been accepted.
Entries may be checked for eligibility, completeness, originality and compliance with the applicable rules before being considered for judging.
The Organiser may contact the participant or parent/guardian for reasonable clarification or verification where required.
6. Entry Limit
Unless the relevant competition specifically allows otherwise, only one entry per participant will be permitted.
Where multiple entries are received from the same participant in violation of the Competition-Specific Rules, the Organiser may reject the additional entries or disqualify the participant.
7. Originality of Entries
Participants are expected to submit work created by themselves.
Unless a competition expressly allows collaborative or group submissions:
- The submitted work must be created by the participant.
- Participants may use general references or inspiration where permitted.
- Participants must not submit another person’s work as their own.
- Participants must not knowingly misrepresent the source or creator of an entry.
Where a competition requires handmade or original work, AI-generated, fully digital, downloaded, purchased, ready-made or substantially copied work may be prohibited as specifically stated on that competition’s page.
8. AI, Digital Tools and External Assistance
The permitted use of artificial intelligence, digital tools, templates, external assistance or other resources will be determined by the individual competition.
Where a competition requires an independently created or handmade entry, participants must comply with that requirement honestly.
If the Organiser reasonably determines that an entry has been falsely presented as the participant’s own work, the entry may be rejected or disqualified.
9. Copyright and Other Third-Party Rights
Participants are responsible for ensuring that their submitted entries do not knowingly infringe another person’s:
- Copyright
- Trademark
- Design rights
- Privacy rights
- Personality/publicity rights
- Other applicable legal rights
Participants should not submit another person’s artwork, photograph, writing, design, video or other protected material as their own.
Where a participant uses third-party material, the participant or parent/guardian is responsible for obtaining any permission required by law.
The Organiser may remove an entry from consideration if a credible intellectual-property or rights-related complaint is received.
The Indian Copyright Act recognises rights of authors in their works, including authorship and certain special rights, so the Organiser will not assume ownership merely because an entry has been submitted.
10. Ownership of Submitted Work
Unless expressly stated otherwise for a particular competition:
- The participant remains the owner of their original work.
- Submitting an entry does not by itself transfer ownership or copyright in that work to Shaykh Art or Shaykh Academy.
- However, participants and, where applicable, their parent/guardian grant the Organiser the permissions described under “Permission to Feature Submitted Entries” below.
11. Permission to Feature Submitted Entries
By submitting an entry, the participant and, where applicable, their parent or legal guardian grant Shaykh Art and Shaykh Academy a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to use, reproduce, publish, display, repost, edit for reasonable presentation, communicate, distribute and share the submitted competition material for purposes connected with the competition and the Organiser’s promotional and educational activities.
This may include:
- The submitted artwork
- Photographs of the artwork
- Process photographs
- Process videos
- Submitted written responses
- The participant’s first name
- Class/category
- Winner position
- Competition-related photographs or recordings
Such content may be used on:
- Official websites
- YouTube
- Other official social-media platforms
- Promotional materials
- Competition announcements
- Competition highlights
- Educational or promotional content
This permission does not transfer ownership of the original artwork to the Organiser.
Where a minor is involved, the applicable permission must be provided by the parent or legal guardian.
12. Public Identification of Participants
Where an entry is featured publicly, the Organiser may identify the participant using limited information such as:
- First name
- Class/category
- City, where appropriate
- Winner position, if applicable
The Organiser will not intentionally publish private registration information such as a participant’s phone number, email address, home address or UPI/payment details as part of a public competition feature.
13. Photographs, Videos and Other People Appearing in Entries
Participants should ensure that photographs and videos submitted to the Organiser do not unnecessarily display private or sensitive information.
Participants should avoid showing:
- Home addresses
- Telephone numbers
- Identity documents
- School identification cards
- Financial information
- Passwords
- Private correspondence
- Other confidential information
Where another identifiable person appears in a submitted photograph or video, the participant or parent/guardian is responsible for ensuring that any permission required for that person’s inclusion has been obtained.
14. Personal Information
Information collected through competition forms may include information reasonably required to administer a competition, such as:
- Participant name
- Age or class
- City
- Parent/guardian details
- Contact details
- Submitted photographs and videos
- Prize/payment information for winners
The information may be used for:
- Processing and verifying entries
- Communicating with participants
- Administering the competition
- Contacting shortlisted participants and winners
- Verifying winners
- Processing prizes
- Maintaining competition records
- Handling questions, complaints and disputes relating to the competition
Personal information should be collected only to the extent reasonably necessary for these purposes.
15. Children’s Personal Information
Because some Shaykh Art competitions may be open to children, the Organiser will handle children’s information with particular care and will obtain the required parent/guardian consent applicable to the processing.
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 contains specific provisions for processing children’s personal data, including requirements concerning parental consent and restrictions on certain processing involving children. The Government’s 2025 commencement notification phases these provisions into force rather than bringing the entire Act into operation at once. Accordingly, our operational practices and privacy documentation should be maintained in accordance with the provisions applicable at the time the relevant data is processed.
The Organiser may maintain a separate Privacy Notice explaining how personal information is collected, used, retained and handled. Where applicable, that Privacy Notice forms part of the information provided to participants and parents/guardians.
