Lesson 1 – Rain in the Night
gutters: channels at the edge of a street that carry off water.
pansies: small plants or their flowers. The flowers have purple, yellow or white velvety petals.
Things to do
1. Answer the following questions:
(a) How long has it been raining?
Ans: It has been raining throughout the night.
(b) What effect will the rain have on the following:
(i) kitty
Ans: The lazy kitten’s feet will get washed.
(ii) roses
Ans: The roses will have the rain drops on them look like diamonds, the Kings and Queen wear at court.
(iii) pansies
Ans: The pansies will get muddy because they are short plants.
(c) What is the child planning to do the next day?
Ans: For the next day, the child is planning to first wash the dirty pansies and then sail her boat at wonderful new places.
2. Describe in 3-5 lines what happens when it rains in your surroundings.
Ans: When it rains in my surroundings, the trees sway and begin to look clean and fresh. There is the pitter-patter sound of the rain on the roofs of all the houses. Very soon, streams of water began to flow along the road. We begin to hear the croaking of the frogs. Everybody comes out to watch and enjoy the rain.
