3. What is a ‘kanagi’? For what purpose do farmers use it?

Ans: A place where the grain is stored is a ‘kanagi’. It is used by farmers to store the grains and protects it from the attack of insects and other pests such as mice and rats.

 

4. For what does a farmer use an implement called a ‘tiphan’?

Ans: A farmer uses tiphan for sowing the seeds in the correct depth and distance. 

 

5. Which ingredients are required for making a lemon sherbet? From where are these ingredients obtained?

Ans: 

(i) Ingredients like water, lemon, salt, and sugar are required for making lemon sherbet.

(ii) Water is obtained from a tank in a locality. Lemons that are kneaded are obtained from farms. Salt is obtained from salt pans. Sugar is obtained from factories that produce sugar from sugarcane.

1. How is a field prepared for sowing?
Ans: Summer is the time to prepare the field. Different implements are attached to the tractor to carry out various farming tasks. The field is ploughed, the lumps of soil are crushed, and finally the field is levelled to make it ready for sowing.

 

2. How is grain transported to all parts of the country?
Ans: The grain is transported to all parts of the country by using various means of transportation.

 

3. Why should we not waste food?

Ans: All the people put in a lot of hard work in their own occupations. We get a variety of foods as a result of their efforts. The efforts and labour of many people are required for storing, transporting, and marketing, as well as preparing the various foods we eat. All this processing is very expensive; therefore, it is necessary for all of us to take care that food is not wasted.

 

4. What are the tasks that are carried out to make a bhakari after the grain has been brought into the house?

Ans: The grain that is purchased is cleaned from any stones or trash in it. It is then taken to the miller to be ground into flour for cooking. The flour is kneaded into the dough. Small lumps of dough are flattened into bhakri and roasted. This is how it appears on our plate.
