Familiarity Breeds Contempt

Familiarity breeds contempt when pride rules the heart Jon Bloom jpg Familiarity Breeds Contempt

Familiarity means closeness, lack of formalities, knowing all the ins and outs of others, and a lot of expectations that all result in the arising of causes of dispute and breeding reasons for quarrel or contempt, as expectations can’t be calculated and are very difficult to fulfill in this world where everyone is busy with his own affairs. On the other hand, in formal acquaintances, we know little about others, take more formal care, and pay more formal respect, so there is little cause for quarreling or contempt. A reasonable distance in relationships is necessary to avoid quarreling and contempt. Rightly said, “A hedge between friendship and familiarity breeds contempt”.
