Solution:

Length of the road cleaned by students = 1 km 750 m

Total length of the village road = 2 km 575 m

 

Total road left to be cleaned,

3. Babhulgaon used 21,250 litres of treated waste water in the fields. Samvatsar used 31,350 litres of similar water. How much treated waste water was used in all?

Solution:

Treated wastewater used by Babhulgaon = 21,250 litres

Treated wastewater used by Samvatsar = 31,350 litres

 

Total treated wastewater used is,

4. If half a litre of milk costs 22 rupees, how much will 7 litres cost?

Solution:

Cost of 0.5 litre of milk = ₹ 22

∴ Cost of 1 litre of milk = ₹ 22 + ₹ 22

∴ Cost of 1 litre of milk = ₹ 44

 

Cost of 7 litres of milk = ?

5. If the speed of a motorcycle is 40 km per hour, how far will it travel in an hour and a quarter?

Solution:

One hour and quarter = 1 hour + 0.25 hour

∴ One hour and quarter = 1.25 hours

 

Distance travelled by motorcycle in 1 hour = 40 km/hr

∴ Distance travelled by motorcycle in one and a quarter hour = ?

 

∴ Distance travelled by motorcycle in one and a quarter hour is,

Ans: The motorcycle travels 50 km in one and a quarter hours.

6. If a man walks at a speed of 4 kmph, how long will it take him to walk 3 km?

Solution:

Waking speed of the man = 4 kmph

∴ Time taken by him to walk 4 km = 1 hour = 60 minutes 

Time taken by him to walk 1 km = (60 ÷ 4) minutes

Time taken by him to walk 1 km = 15 minutes 

Time taken by him to walk 3 km = 15 ×

Time taken by him to walk 3 km = 45 minutes


Ans: Time taken by him to walk 3 km is 45 minutes.

7. If a rickshaw travels at a speed of 30 kmph, how far will it travel in three quarters of an hour?

Solution:

Three quarters of an hour = 0.75 hours

 

Distance travelled by rickshaw in 1 hour = 30 km

∴ Distance travelled by rickshaw in 0.75 hours = ?

 

Distance travelled by rickshaw in 0.75 hours is,

Ans: The rickshaw travels 22.5 km in three quarters of an hour. 

8. During Cleanliness Week, children cleaned the public park in their town. They collected three quarter kilograms of plastic bags and five and a half kilograms of other garbage. How much garbage did they collect in all?

Solution:

Three quarter kilograms = 0.75 kg

Five and a half kilograms = 5 + 0.5 kg = 5.5 kg

 

Weight of plastic bags collected by children = 0.75 kg

Weight of other garbage collected by children = 5.5 kg

Total garbage collected by them = ?

 

Total garbage collected by them is,

9. If one shirt needs 2m 50 cm of cloth, how much cloth do we need for 5 shirts?

Solution:

Cloth needed for 1 shirt = 2m 50 cm

Cloth needed for 5 shirts = ?

 

Cloth needed for 5 shirts is,

10. If a car travels 60 km in an hour, how far will it travel in

(1) 2 hours?

Solution:

Distance travelled by car in 1 hour = 60 km

∴ Distance travelled by car in 2 hours = ?

 

Distance travelled by car in 2 hours is,

Ans: The car travels 120 km in 2 hours. 

(2) 15 minutes?

Solution:

15 minutes = 0.25 hours

 

Distance travelled by car in 1 hour = 60 km

∴ Distance travelled by car in 0.25 hours = ?

(3) half an hour?

Solution:

Half an hour = 0.5 hours

 

Distance travelled by car in 1 hour = 60 km

(4) three and a half hours?

Solution:

Three and a half hours = 3 + 0.5 = 3.5 hours

 

Distance travelled by car in 1 hour = 60 km

11. If one gold bangle is made from 12 grams 250 milligrams of gold, how much gold will be needed to make 8 such bangles? (1000mg = 1 g)

Solution:

1 bangles needs 12 g 250 mg of gold

12. How many pouches of 20g cloves each can be made from 1 kg 240 g of cloves?

Solution:

1kg 240 g = 1000 g + 240 g = 1240 g

Race distance = 100 m

Weight of potatoes in the sack = 13 kg 400 g

Solution:

Distance walked by Gurminder Singh = 3 km 750 m

Distance walked by Parminder Singh = 2 km 835 m

 

3 km 750 m > 2 km 835 m

∴ Gurminder Singh walked farther than Parminder Singh

20. Jalgaon, Bhusawal, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur lie serially on a certain route. The distances between Akola and these other places are given below. Use them to make word problems and solve the problems.

Amravati – 95 km, Bhusawal – 154 km, Nagpur – 249 km, Jalgaon – 181 km

Solution:

Q1. What is the distance between Akola and Amravati? 

Ans: The distance between Akola and Amravati is 95 km. 

 

Q2. What is the distance between Akola and Bhusawal? 

Ans: The distance between Akola and Bhusawal is 154 km. 

 

Q3. What is the distance between Akola and Nagpur? 

Ans: The distance between Akola and Nagpur is 249 km. 

 

Q4. What is the distance between Akola and Jalgaon? 

Ans: The distance between Akola and Jalgaon is 181 km. 

 

Q5. What is the distance between Amravati and Jalgaon? 

Solution:

Sequence of places is Jalgaon, Bhusawal, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur.

So, Jalgaon and Amravati are opposite directions to Akola.

Distance between Amravati and Jalgaon = 181 km + 95 km = 276 km

 

Ans: The distance between Amravati and Jalgaon is 276 km

 

Q6. Which is the farthest place from Akola? 

Ans: Nagpur is the farthest distance from Akola.

∴ Cost of 1.5 kg chana dal = 1.5 × ₹ 60

∴ Cost of 1.5 kg chana dal = ₹ 90

 

(iv) Cost of 1 kg toor dal = ₹ 70

∴ Cost of 3 kg toor dal = 3 × ₹ 70

∴ Cost of 3 kg toor dal = ₹ 210

 

(v) Cost of 1 kg wheat = ₹ 21

∴ Cost of 7 kg wheat = 7 × ₹ 21

∴ Cost of 7 kg wheat = ₹ 147

 

(vi) Cost of 1 kg oil = ₹ 110

∴ Cost of 1.5 kg oil = 1.5 × ₹ 110
